Show Low received its name when C. E. Cooley and Marion Clark decided there wasn’t enough room in the settlement for both of them.  How do you settle this dispute?  You go to the cards!  The two men agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to move.  According to the story, Clark said, "if you can show low, you win."  Cooley turned up the duce of clubs and replied, "Show Low it is."

The community is surrounded by lakes and streams for fishing, the largest stand of Ponderosa Pine in the US.  The elevation is 6,412 ft.

It is conveniently located near the ski slopes, Hon-Dah and the communities of Lakeside and Pinetop.
