Formerly the Museum of Astrogeology this Meteor Crater Vistior Center shows new displays on the never-ending process of impacts and collisions in our solar systm by the Meteors.  The learning center includes twenty-four exciting exhibits, making it the most extensie and informative museum of it’s kind on earth.  There are also two interactive computer displays at the Learning Center that contain information and high-tech graphics on space, meterorites and asteroids, the solar system, and the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet that impacted Jupiter.

There is a movie, "Collisions and Impacts" which shows twice each hour for 10 minutes introducing the themes displayed throughout the learning center.  There is an actual Apollo space test capsule among the other artifact exhibits waiting for you to visit.  There is an American Astronaut Wall of Fame in the center.  There are also eteorite fragements for you to see and touch.  The largest is 1,406 pounds. 

There are tour observations areas behind the Learning Center where you can see the crater from inside the rim.  Daily guided rim tours allow you a close up look at points of interest in the crater.  YOu must have proper shoes to be able to enjoy the hike.  Tours leave hourly from 9:15 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. and last about 1 hour, weather permitting.

The crater is over 4,000 ft. across and 550 ft. deep, the observation telescopes allow for a close up look at the many points of interest contained in the crater.

Pets cannot be allowed at the facility, sorry.

Hours: Memorial Day to September 15, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., The rest of the year 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Thanksgiving Day they are open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is closed Christmas Day.
